Can anyone recommend some decent free to download multi-track audio software for recording and editing, along the lines of Audacity.... for either PC or Mac....

Well I don't mind if it's somewhat basic, like audacity, I just want it to actually work, to be easy to download and install, and not have to fuck around with serial numbers and shit for the really expensive professional shit. My uncle gave me a free copy of Digital Performer a while ago, worth hundreds of dollars, but I was never able to get it installed and working because of incompatibility and serial numbers, etc. My next computer is going to be a Mac, so I'll have to ask him if he can give me some professional level shit, but in the mean time I'd like something simple and easy. I need to figure out how to record audio on my computer and why audacity once recorded but no longer does...

CoolEdit and Cubase. Neither are free, but both are easy to pirate and easy to use. I use CoolEdit but I've heard Cubase is better for more serious recording
